It’s been 10 year since WordPress first hit the internet, and as you’ll see from the infographic below, it has become the most popular content management system (CMS). In fact it’s an unwritten rule, that if you want to set up a website and have full control over it, WordPress is the undisputed champion!
Initially released in 2003 by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little, WordPress has grown to power over 66 million websites. Which include CNN, BBC, The Next Web and Social Media Examiner. The popular CMS has also become the default CMS for many business websites.
Among it’s many appeals is its ease of use and customization options. Regardless of your coding ability, just about anyone can get up and running with WordPress. Its functionality can be easily expanded through the 25,054 Plugins that are available to install. And 1780 free themes to choose from, you’re bound to find one that you like before going for a paid theme.
But with 10 years since its introduction, it’s easy to forget the impact WordPress has had on online publishing. This infographic conveniently reminds us of some interesting statistics on the widely used CMS and what makes it so great.
